Welcome to Great Britain!
Aims and objects:
-         to develop basic skills;
-         to introduce and practice vocabulary;
-         to activate pupils speaking skills;
-         to develop socio- and cross-cultural competence;
-         to practice reading skills;
-         to increase cultural awareness;
-         to extent pupils knowledge about Great Britain and English traditions;
-         to teach impromptu  monological and dialogical speaking;
-         to develop pupils imagination thinking and abilities to introduce their reports;
-         to teach pupils to keep their family traditions and enjoy every moment of like and keep it in their memory.
-         to improve knowledge about the geographical position of Great Britain, it´s climate ,weather, national traditions holidays and history.
Visual and technical aids:  the map of Great Britain; computers; «mind map»; psychological test; pictures; Brainstorm questions; some slides.
The type of the lesson: test seminar.

Outline of the lesson
I. Organization
1. Greeting:
T: Good morning, children! Good morning, dear guests! The topic of our lesson «Welcome to Great Britain». It is the binary Geography and English lesson with the help of computers. Our lesson will have the form of a test seminar. I want you to demonstrate all your knowledge from the Geography and English lessons.
But before we start our lesson let's do a little psychological test:
                                          I am a pupil
                                          I am a good pupil
                                          I am a clever pupil
                                          I am a talented pupil
                                          I want to be the most talented pupil in the world
Well, I hope, that you are the most talented pupils in the world.

2. The aims of  the lesson:
T: at your lesson we have to do:
-         to repeat words and word-combinations of today's topic;
-         to introduce your own reports about Great Britain;
-         to repeat and use some grammar;
-         to speak about English traditions;

3. Speaking: Children, lets make up our mind-map to the world country.


Yes, we shall speak about all this things and it well be the plan of our lesson, we shall work with the help of the computer.

II. The main part of the lesson.
T: Answer the question of the quiz «Do you know much about Great Britain
1.     What is the official name of the country?
2.     What is the capital of Great Britain?
3.     Where was W. Shakespeare born?
4.     What is the highest mountain?
5.     What is the longest river?
6.     What cities are University cities?
7.     What are the main parts of London?


Geographical position.
T: We shall start to speak about the geographical position. But some people call that country «England», others- «Great Britain», and there is another name is «The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland». Let’s try to guess what is the correct name of the country. You may use the map: who will begin? So children, what is the correct name of the country?

Climate and weather.
Our second topic is: climate and weather. Who wants to speak about the climate and weather? So, children, what influences greatly the climate?

4. Writing

Geographical dictation:
T: Children, open your copy-books and lets write down the Geographical dictation: Great Britain, London, England, Scotland, Wales, Thames, weather, climate.

London – is the capital of Great Britain.
T: Our next topic for discussion is: London – is the capital of Great Britain. Answer my questions (What do you know about London).

A:
-         What is the capital of Great Britain?
-         What is the population of London?
-         Where is London situated?
-         What kind of city is London?
-         What are the most important parts of London?
-         What is the City of London?
-         What is the West End?
-         What is the East End?
-         What is the Westminster Abbey?

B:
Children, lets do London Sightseeing tour. Work with the computers. Let’s imagine, we are flying by plane over London. What sights would you like to see? Use the construction:

   He                      would like (to see, to visit, to know about, to hear about)

   They
Ask each other questions.

C:
Now, children, find in your computers the text about the English Queen. Read the text about the private life of the English Queen – Elizabeth II.
After the reading answer the questions.

D:
Listen the rhymes about the Kingdom.

a) T: Children, look at the blackboard, there are some rebuses on it. Try to guess some of them:

 National traditions.
And the last topic for discussion is: «National traditions». Children, what English traditions do you know? In turns children are speaking about: Shakespeare Festival, St. Valentine's Day, All Fool's Day, Christmas celebrations, New Year's Eve.
